Whether you’re starting your first character, exploring a new skill or improving an endgame build, Build Mentor brings build discovery, character planning, gear checks, crafting guidance and loot filters together in one free website.
Start with a character, a weapon, a favourite skill—or simply an idea of how you want to play. Explore builds, follow your progression, understand your equipment and find your next upgrade.
For new players, there’s a guided introduction and campaign walkthrough. For experienced players, there are tools to build your own character, import an existing build and investigate equipment and crafting options.
Free to use. No account required. Available in English and Hungarian, with game data labelled for patch 0.5.5.
How to use each section
Home — Choose where to begin
The homepage brings the main tools together. Choose your league, explore a featured build or select a section from the navigation. You can also use the message box to describe what you want to play or ask a question.
If you’re completely new, choose Start here for the guided introduction.
Ideas — Find your next build
Not sure what to play? Start with Ideas. Choose a broad playstyle such as ranged, melee, caster or minions—or select Anything to explore more widely.
Use this section when you know how you want a character to feel but haven’t chosen its class or main skill.
Character — Start with a class
Choose a character to explore the builds available for it. Each class has a short description and a build count to help you browse.
This is a useful starting point if you already have a favourite class and want to see different ways to play it.
Weapon — Start with your preferred weapon
Choose a weapon type to explore associated builds and skills. The menu separates attack weapons, caster weapons and off-hand equipment, and marks weapon types that aren’t playable in the selected patch.
Use this route if you know you want a bow, crossbow, wand, spear or another particular weapon.
Skill — Build around an ability you enjoy
Type a skill name into the search box, or browse skills by category. The category browser lets you select skills and ask for a suggested class to match.
This is the place to start when a particular ability is the reason you want to make a character.
Pick your skills. Let Build Mentor build around them.
Your skill choices should shape your character. Build Mentor takes the abilities you want to play and works out the passive tree, ascendancy, support gems and gear to bring them together.
Choose your full skill setup, set your main damage skill and pick your class. The engine then works towards a complete build designed around those choices—with damage, defence and mana sustain considered together.
Build around your whole skill bar
Go to Skill → Browse all skills by category and select everything you plan to use: up to nine skills, plus Spirit skills such as heralds, auras and banners. The more complete your selection, the more of your intended setup the engine can account for.
Your first skill, marked ★, is your main damage skill. The engine prioritises its damage while building around the rest of your selection. Tap another skill on the bar to make it your main one.
For a more focused starting point, choose skills with compatible weapon requirements and complementary damage scaling. If you use a meta gem, add the spells you want inside it—they remain part of your finished setup.
Your class is your choice
Choose the class and ascendancy you want to play. The ★★★ recommendations highlight the strongest matches identified for your selected skills, but you can choose another combination. The engine plans around the class and ascendancy you select.
More than a damage number
A useful build needs to survive and keep fighting. Alongside damage, the engine works towards:
- Elemental resistance: 75% fire, cold and lightning resistance, with chaos resistance also considered.
- Survivability: defences intended to withstand heavy boss hits.
- Boss damage: enough offensive power to make progress in demanding fights.
- Mana sustain: the resources to keep attacking or casting.
- Minion survival: for minion builds, keeping your army alive during boss encounters.
These are build goals, not guarantees for every combination.
Choose now. Return for your custom build.
Custom builds are processed overnight. Return to the same skill selection later to check whether yours is ready.
If a ready-made build already includes all your selected skills, it opens first. Once your custom build is available, you can access it through the second build button.
An experimental engine, built to keep improving
Build Mentor is still in development. Treat its plans as a starting point to explore, test and refine as the engine evolves.
Bring the skills you want to play. Give them a build of their own.
Build my own — Take control of your character
Choose a starting class, then use the planner to assemble your passives, ascendancy, skills, supports and equipment.
Use this section to develop your own idea or experiment with changes. Builds are kept in your browser, and the interface offers export options for taking your plan elsewhere.
Load a build — Bring an existing plan with you
Paste a Path of Building code, supported build text or a build link into the import box. You can also choose or drop a supported file.
Follow the on-screen export instructions for your source, such as Path of Building, Mobalytics, Maxroll or poe.ninja. Importing gives you a starting point to inspect and follow without entering everything manually.
Gear Check — Understand your equipment
Add your equipped items to their slots, load a Path of Building code or file, or use the manual item builder.
On PC, copy an item in-game with Ctrl+Alt+C, select its gear slot and paste it. Console players can enter their items manually.
Gear Check assesses the equipment’s apparent build direction, offensive stats, defences and overall fit, then suggests which slots deserve attention next. Treat it as an equipment assessment: skills, passive choices and other character effects can change the full picture.
Craft Mentor — Inspect an item and plan improvements
Paste an item to see its modifier tiers, available prefix and suffix slots, and an assessment of its potential. Choose Try an example to learn the interface, or use the manual builder if you cannot copy item text.
Select the stats you want under Your crafting goal to explore a crafting route. After making a change in-game, paste the updated item to reassess your next step.
The Base finder helps you identify bases and item levels for your goals, then add those bases to your loot filter. The material-price section provides league-specific price estimates.
Crafting probabilities are approximate, and market prices should be checked before spending currency.
Loot filter creator — Make useful drops easier to spot
Choose a strictness level, then customise which item categories and equipment types should appear. With a build selected or loaded, you can also highlight relevant weapon and armour types.
Give the filter a name and download it. Extract the download if needed, place the .filter file in Documents/My Games/Path of Exile 2/, then select it under Options → Game → Item Filter.
The creator builds on NeverSink’s filter, with your preferences applied on top.
New player guide — Follow a route through the game
Choose Start here on the homepage or open the beginner guide. Pick a character and a fighting style to begin the guided setup.
The walkthrough covers campaign progression, useful optional rewards, permanent bonuses, ascendancy trials and the transition into endgame. Use it alongside your build to understand both where to go and what to prepare.
Community — A section still in development
Community build browsing is currently marked coming soon. A Share your build option is visible, but the community browser is not yet available.
